Babehoven
Blending earthy lo-fi folk with abstract poetry and elements of shoegaze and indie rock, Babehoven is the project of singer/songwriter Maya Bon and collaborator Ryan Albert. Based in Hudson, New York, the duo built a strong D.I.Y. following with a series of self-released EPs before signing with the Double Double Whammy label and making their full-length debut with 2022's Light Moving Time.
Originally from Los Angeles, Bon launched Babehoven as a solo project while attending college in Portland, Oregon. Her home-recorded debut EP, Sleep, appeared in 2018, introducing her dreamy, introspective folk songs. After returning to Los Angeles, she met collaborator and producer Ryan Albert and the two began working as a duo. Babehoven's first release in this new format was 2020's Demonstrating Visible Difference of Height EP which expanded the project's instrumentation and sonic range. 2021's Yellow Has a Pretty Good Reputation EP explored themes of loss and disassociation and featured a more experimental production aesthetic. They followed it later in the year with the similarly expressive Nastavi, Calliope EP.
By this time, Babehoven had relocated to Hudson, New York, and in 2022 announced their signing to Brooklyn indie Double Double Whammy Records. Another EP, Sunk, marked the group's label debut and was followed in October of that year by the full-length Light Moving Time.
