Kwak

Formed in Martinique in 1993 under the impetus of Lea Galva, Suzy Trebeau and Jean-Luc Guanel, Kwak has gradually attracted the likes of Philippe Joseph, Alain Dracius, Christian Louiset, Anthony Lowensky and José Marie-Rose. Born of a desire to promote the island's own zouk and kompas music, the group released its first album, A la Kwakans' (1993), in its first year of existence. The eleven tracks quickly caught on with the public, who took a liking to songs such as "Séré mwen" and "Kontinué ", which became hits, and the group went on to perform throughout the Caribbean. With success already achieved in its first year, Kwak became galvanized and committed to songwriting with intensity. After A dé, vlopé !!! (1994) and Lé ga' mèci... (1995), Et si on dansait (1996) marks the band's fourth album in four years. With new tracks such as "Moman foli " and "Mennen mwen" becoming emblematic of zouk, and a steady stream of concerts, Kwak's popularity led to glowing comparisons, notably with the group Kassav'. However, disagreements led to the dissolution of the group in 1996, which reformed in a hybrid configuration with members of the group Taxi for the Kwaxikolor project. Still in contact through different initiatives, Kwak members continue their careers in music, like Suzy Trébeau on her own with "Sé pou yo" released in 2021.
